Final days,or maybe weeks of pregnancy

Pregnancy has been a wonderful journey, beyond what I could have imagined. I am sure birthing and of course motherhood will not disappoint. As I reach the end of this first phase of motherhood, I am struck by the wisdom and power that it holds. For some, pregnancy is nothing to be desired, with debilitating morning sickness, hormonal rampages, and constant feelings of insecurity. Luckily, I have been blessed with a very gentle experience thus far, with a moderate amount of energy, little discomfort and lots of love and support from those around me. But I still cant help but wonder why are some people "lucky" when it comes to pregnancy? I truly believe, like all important journeys in life, we are handed challenges tailor made for our own unique experience. I have always struggled with patience. I don't like waiting for someone to call or arrive, I hate being late for things, and am easily annoyed when other people are late. I guess you could say I like being in control. And already I feel a total loss of control in my life. Not having any idea or affect on then our baby is going to arrive is maddening for me. But I feel this is a lesson that pregnancy is handing me, if I so choose to accept the challenge. As a mother, my ability to control the environment around me is going to be much harder, even then it is now.  Our child is going to have ideas and ways of its own, which is my goal to encourage and support. But they are not going to be my own. This I can not control. I must have patience, in allowing our child to discover the human it is destined to be. Just as I must allow it to be born when it is destined to be born. And if Im ment to learn any lesson, I have a feeling its going to be a while still. But I am ready with open arms and an open heart for whenever that day is.

Birthing from within

Ryan and I just finished our last "Birthing from Within" class last night. We were in a small group, just us and one other couple. The facilitator was a wonderful womyn named Sarah, who did such a great job at creating a welcoming and safe place for us to share our stories, fears, and even tears.
Over the last 6 weeks, Wednesday night became something to look forward to, a time when I could dive deep into the depths of my experience of being pregnant, and the huge right of passage that is birth. Even though we learned a lot about the process of birth, what I gained the most was ability to completely trust the process in whatever shape and form it takes. To birth my baby, I too must be reborn.

Life so far.

As I am new to the blogging world, I am just going to dive in head first....
As of yesterday, I am 35 weeks pregnant with my first babe. So for I have been blessed to have had a joyful and easy journey so far, with the help of my amazingly supportive husband, Ryan. He is always reminding me to drink water, bring snacks with me, and even rolling me over on my side in the middle of the night! What a guy! Having a circle of strong womyn and mamas in my life has certainly helped a lot, as well as having 2 incredible midwifes, dedicated to the healthy and loving birth of our child.
We are planning a homebirth, if all goes well. And after readying Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth, I feel very exited and empowered to join in the collective strength of all the womyn who have walked this path before me.
                                                                        Got married....
Moved to Nelson to attend Art school.......
Moved into the woods....
Got pregnant.....

                                                                     Bought a house.....
NOW, as I await the arrival of our little on, I have been trying my best to stay busy and prepare myself for the life changing event that is about to occur. But life is all about balance right? In the midst of baking apple pies and doing laundry, there has to be a little bit of down time. Who knows when I will get THAT opportunity again. But after all, energy creates energy, and I feel at my strongest and most empowered when my day is full.
